School Board Land Donation - We Need Your Help!
Send a Message of Support to LCSB@lcps.org This Weekend If You Can
For as long as Loudoun Valley Estates, Rosa Lee Carter Elementary, and Rock Ridge High School have coexisted, the wooded corridor along Broad Run has been one continuous, shared space. Our kids walk and bike those trails to school. Sports teams use them for training runs. Teachers hold classes outdoors. Families walk those paths every evening. There has never been a fence, a barrier, or a real boundary - just green space that belongs to all of us. Technically, there has always been a property line between our HOA's common area and the adjacent school campuses - a line drawn by the original developer when the neighborhood was built. But on the ground, that line has never mattered. The land has functioned as one shared space for the community and the schools for as long as any of us have been here.
Our community has offered to gift approximately 12.74 acres of our green space to Loudoun County Public Schools - to formalize what has always been true and to ensure this land is permanently protected for the children and families who use it every day.
This land was set aside as green space when this community was built. That was the promise made to the families who put down roots here, and to the schools that were built alongside us. We have maintained it and cared for it for years. Under the proposed terms, LVE retains maintenance responsibility, and a permanent conservation easement ensures the land can only be used for educational, recreational, and open-space purposes. The School Board takes title without taking on additional burden - and the community never loses control over what this land can be used for.
We have appreciated the School Board's support throughout this process - they have been resolute that this infrastructure does not belong on school grounds or in this community.
We are grateful for the engagement we have received from Board members, and we tremendously appreciate the town hall our representative Amy Riccardi hosted.
The level of seriousness with which our School Board has approached this topic is exactly what leadership looks like, and this community notices it.
Our schools have built amazing facilities. And just as the green space this community has preserved for 25 years should not be wiped out to power data centers, school grounds should not be repurposed to run commercial transmission infrastructure simply because the land is available. That was never the intent. That is not what any of us in Loudoun County thought we were buying into. And it is not right.
We are asking every resident who can to send a short email to the School Board at LCSB@lcps.org in support of accepting this donation.
When the Board sees hundreds of families standing behind this decision, it reinforces that the community is with them - just as they have been with us.
And you do not need to live in Loudoun Valley Estates to write.
This donation is from our HOA, but we are doing it on behalf of the entire greater community.
If this land matters to you, if this issue matters to you, your voice matters here.
To help you get started, we have posted a set of message templates at unitedloudoun.org to make this as easy as possible.
Pick one that fits, personalize it, and send it to LCSB@lcps.org. It is that easy.
Please send your emails this weekend if you can - or as soon as you are able. Things are moving quickly and every email helps us in this effort.
Loudoun County Files in Support of Our Motion
Yesterday, the Loudoun County Attorney's Office filed a Memorandum in Support of our Petition for Reconsideration with the State Corporation Commission.
This is significant. The County is now formally on record supporting LVE and HOA Roundtable's motion asking the SCC to reconsider its April 9 Order approving overhead Route 4.
The County's brief argues that Dominion's illegal Route 1F distorted the proceeding, that condemning residential property for private data center demand raises constitutional problems, and that the Commission ignored the cost-allocation question entirely.
This is encouraging. Loudoun County has been a strong partner throughout this process, and we are glad to see them standing with us at this critical stage.
This is where the County should be - and frankly, it is where they should have been on every step of this fight.
We are grateful they are here now, and we expect them to stay here.
This community has showed up, organized, and advocated for over a year - that community is not going away, and neither should our elected leaders.
Our position has always been consistent: keep commercial-scale transmission infrastructure in commercial areas and away from homes and schools.
And if ultimately, there is no choice but to have these lines near communities - underground is the answer.
But if the lines do not have to go through residential neighborhoods at all - and the evidence increasingly suggests they may not - then that is the conversation we should all be having as well.
There is no “one size fits all solution.”
The right solution could be above ground, that could be underground, or a hybrid solution depending on where that solution is .
But no right solution is above ground through schools and residential communities - ever.
You will be hearing more from us over the next few days, and we know the emails can feel repetitive.
We send them because we want to make sure everyone sees them - and because each one matters.
We only reach out when it counts, and right now, it counts - a lot.
More to come…
