Monday: Special School Board Meeting on Golden to Mars - Public Comment Open Now (LOCATION UPDATE)

UPDATE: The meeting will be held at Rock Ridge High School this Monday, July 13 at 5:30 PM
Rock Ridge High School 43460 Loudoun Reserve Dr Ashburn, VA 20148
The Loudoun County School Board has scheduled a Special Meeting this Monday, July 13 at 5:30 PM, to take up the Golden to Mars transmission line.
Sign-up for public comment is open now.
On June 29, 2026, the SCC issued its Final Order approving Route 3A.
Route 3A runs across the Broad Run open space corridor between our neighborhoods and the campuses - including the Parcel L land the School Board accepted by deed of donation on June 23 to preserve as open space and protect the area used by classrooms, athletics, and as a general student walking and activity area.
3A places up to 185-foot 500kV structures across School Board-owned land, surrounding Rock Ridge High School and Rosa Lee Carter Elementary.
The School Board has been consistent since March 2025: it opposes high-voltage transmission infrastructure on school grounds, and it took title to Parcel L to protect that open space.
The case is not over - a window remains for reconsideration and appeal of the SCC's decision - and the School Board is seeking input from the community this week.
We encourage the community to attend and voice your support for the School Board doing everything possible to protect the community from Route 3A proceeding and to petition the SCC for reconsideration of the case.
How to be heard:
Public comment is in-person only for this meeting. Registration is open and closes at noon on the day of the meeting. Register as an individual speaker here:

A few things to know:
- Comments should stay focused on the Golden to Mars transmission line project - that is the sole subject of this Special Meeting.
- Time per speaker is set by the Chair and announced beforehand (typically about one minute, not to exceed five).
- If you cannot pre-register, walk-up registration is accepted at the front of the school up to 30 minutes before the meeting; on-site registrants are added to the end of the list.
If you cannot attend, you can still submit written comments to the School Board here:
https://webinter.lcps.org/contactschoolboard/
The livestream will be available on the LCPS website.
Turnout on Monday and participation are important.
The School Board is seeking the input of the community, and delivering that message in a respectful way carries real weight.
Please register, show up if you can, and help the School Board hear that this community stands with it in its efforts to keep the devastating impacts Route 3A would bring off school grounds and out of our neighborhoods.
