Morrisville to Wishing Star is Dominion's second large 500 kV project reaching into Loudoun after Golden to Mars. It runs from the Morrisville Station in Fauquier County through Prince William County to the Wishing Star Station near Arcola. Dominion filed it with the SCC on Feb. 27, 2026, at an estimated $873.6 million, with a target in-service date of Dec. 31, 2030.[1]
The application covers a new 36.6-mile 500 kV line, a new 8.1-mile 230 kV line in Fauquier, and the rebuild of many existing lines in the same corridor. In Loudoun the work is the last 4.4 miles, from the Loudoun and Mosby stations to Wishing Star, mostly inside the existing right-of-way, with new monopoles averaging about 177 feet.
What it means for Loudoun
Dominion says the project fixes reliability violations PJM identified in its 2022 and 2024 planning cycles. Respondents from the Piedmont Environmental Council, Fauquier County and the American Battlefield Trust tie the need to data center load. The Piedmont Environmental Council's witness describes the line as the southern part of the same set of projects that loops around eastern Loudoun from Wishing Star to Mars, Mars to Golden and Golden to Aspen.
Loudoun County is a party to the case.[2] So are Fauquier County, the Piedmont Environmental Council, the American Battlefield Trust, two homeowners associations, a homebuilder, and four data center land companies.
