Speak in person

  2. Sign up by noon, or at the meeting

Call the Office of the County Administrator at 703-777-0200 before noon on the day of the meeting. [1] Give your full name, election district, topic and email address. [2] Or sign up in person with the clerk in the Board Room, starting 30 minutes before the meeting begins, first come, first served. [1]

  3. Know when you will speak

At business meetings, speakers on agenda items go first, then speakers on other topics. At public hearings, speakers go in the order they signed up. [2]

  4. Speak

Speak to the Board as a whole. Debate is not allowed, and members can ask only questions of clarification. The podium has a timer. When it reaches zero, stop. [2] At a public hearing, bring 12 copies of anything you want to hand out. [2]

Speak by phone

  1. Business meetings: sign up in advance

Call 703-777-0200 by noon on the meeting day and say you will speak by phone. [1] Phone speakers must sign up in advance. Phone speakers can use no more than half of the public input time: up to 45 minutes, or 22 speakers. [2]

  2. Public hearings: call in during the hearing

Advance sign-up is strongly encouraged but not required. [2] If you did not sign up, call 703-880-8534 during the hearing to get in line, first come, first served. [1]

Write to the Board

  1. Email all nine supervisors, or call the comment line

Email bos@loudoun.gov, or leave a message on the Board's comment line at 703-777-0115. [1]

  2. On public hearing items, you have until the vote

The record stays open for written comments until the Board votes. The Board usually does not vote the night of the hearing. [2]

Need help to take part?

Ask for an interpreter at least 48 hours before the meeting. For other accommodations, call 703-777-0200 at least one business day ahead. [1] The speaker and the interpreter each get up to 2 minutes. [2]
